  • Odds of Getting a Royal Flush in Video Poker

Posted on November 30, 2012 by Jack Potts

Have your ever wondered what are the odds of getting a royal flush in video poker from the different starting hands?

The odds of getting dealt royal (RF5) is: 1 in 649,740 deals.  Over the mathematical cycle of millions of hands played (long term), this should amount to 6% of all your royal flushes.

The odds of getting a royal flush when you are dealt 4 to the royal (RF4) is 1 in 47.  This should amount to 31% of all the royal flushes you get over the mathematical cycle.

The odds of getting a royal flush when you are dealt 3 to the royal (RF3) is 1 in 1081.  This should amount to 41% of all the royal flushes you get over the mathematical cycle. It's interesting that this is the highest amount.  This is due to the fact that being dealt 3 to the royal is a fairly common hand.

The odds of getting a royal flush when you are dealt 2 to the royal (RF2) is 1 in 16,215.  This will amount to 21% of all the royal flushes you will get over the mathematical cycle.

The odds of getting a royal flush when you are deal 1 to the royal (RF1) is 1 in 511,000.  This will amount to 1% of all royals you get over the mathematical cycle.

Finally, the odds of getting a royal flush on a 5 card re-draw (RF0) is: 1 in 400,000.  This will amount to 0.3% of all royals you get over the mathematical cycle.
